Company History

We trace our roots back to 1907 in Chicago, where the Switchboard Apparatus Co. was manufacturing electrical apparatus for this growing Midwestern city on the shores of Lake Michigan.

Until 1992, it was owned and operated by three generations of the founding Berthold family. The ownership was then changed to Switchboard Apparatus Inc - built upon the rich tradition of the company’s past.

In 2006, Switchboard Apparatus Inc invested in expanded production capability by building a 50,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art electrical equipment manufacturing facility in Elmhurst, IL.

The company acquired certain business interests and resources of the Emerson Network Power ASCO Custom Engineered Services unit to create an integrated custom engineering and manufacturing solutions group in 2010.

By combining Switchboard Apparatus and ASCO Engineering Services, it created a strong foundation for a new organization called SAI Advanced Power Solutions.

By 2019, SAI Advanced Power Solutions opened a world-class operations center, housed in an 100,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility in Franklin Park, IL.

In 2024, SAI Advanced Power Solutions opened a brand new warehouse in Saint Charles, IL, to expand its operations. This marks a significant step in our transformational journey to meet society's growing power distribution needs.
