Company Overview
We are the North County Transit District!
Since our inception in 1975, NCTD has been helping people get where they need to be. By providing public transportation for North San Diego County, we are able to serve more than 10 million passengers every year.
NCTD’s mission is to deliver safe, convenient, reliable, and user-friendly public transportation services. Our vision is to build an integrated transit system that enables our customers to travel easily and efficiently throughout our growing region.
Company History
NCTD was established in 1975 by California Senate Bill No. 802 to plan, construct, and operate public transit in North San Diego County.
Services include BREEZE bus, SPRINTER hybrid rail, COASTER commuter trains, FLEX demand response, and LIFT ADA paratransit service. NCTD shares the use of its tracks with rail partners Amtrak, Metrolink, BNSF, and Pacific Sun Railroad. Amtrak and Metrolink operate more than 264 commuter trains on our tracks every week while BNSF and Pacific Sun move more than 9.6 million pounds of freight.
NCTD is governed by Board of Directors with voting members from Carlsbad, Del Mar, Encinitas, Escondido, Oceanside, Solana Beach, San Marcos, Vista, and San Diego County, and one non-voting member from the City of San Diego.
