Reporting to the Chief Operation Officer/s, the Human Resources Manager will lead MCG Careers in all matters relating to Human Resources, including:

  • Maintaining the work structure by updating job requirements and job descriptions for all positions
  • Responsible for staff recruitment activities, interviewing process, reference, and skills checks
  • Maintaining employee records following FOIP guidelines
  • Counselling managers on the recruitment process, interviewing and candidate selection
  • Handling the discipline and termination of employees in accordance with MCG policy
  • Conducting and analyzing exit interviews
  • Coordinating 3 month and annual performance reviews and professional development plans (PDP)
  • Coordinating employee recognition and years of service awards
  • Preparing new hires through conducting staff orientation and onboarding activities
  • Supporting managers in the coaching, mentorship, and discipline of employees
  • Coordinating or facilitating mediation for employee grievances
  • Correlating and planning to make the best use of employee talents and skills
  • Provides support and guidance to Jr. HR staff and management when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise; may be required to administer and execute routine tasks in delicate circumstances such as providing reasonable accommodations and investigating allegations of wrongdoing, and terminations
  • Analyzes trends in compensation and benefits; researches and proposes competitive base and incentive pay programs to ensure the organization attracts and retains top talent
  • Creates learning and development programs and initiatives that provide internal development opportunities for employees
  • Ensures compliance with federal, provincial, and local employment laws and regulations and recommended best practices; reviews policies and procedures to maintain compliance
  • Nurtures a positive working environment; role models expected business behaviour and etiquette
  • Supports the corporate team by performing other duties as assigned


  • Post-secondary education in human resource management  or a related area
  • A minimum of five to ten years of HR generalist experience with demonstrated supervisory experience with a medium-sized company
  • CPHR or equivalent accreditation
  • Able to use critical thinking to interpret situations and make recommendations based on sound knowledge to produce effective results
  • Full computer proficiency (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Docs, Google Forms, Video Conferencing Software (Zoom, Google Teams, etc.). Experience with WordPress an asset
  • Experience handling sensitive information and personnel matters with discretion; understanding of applicable FOIP procedures and policies
  • Experience using online job boards and social media as recruitment tools
  • Strong communication skills to effectively liaise with all programs/departments within MCG Careers
  • High level of understanding related to client-centric service-based government-funded programs
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic
  • Ability to proactively manage diverse relationships and multiple projects simultaneously
