Martin/Martin, a 380-person engineering firm, is seeking an experienced HR Generalist to join our Human Resources team. This role will support a wide range of HR functions, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, compliance, performance management, and HRIS administration.
The HR Generalist will play a key role in ensuring organizational compliance with state and federal employment laws, maintaining accurate employee data, and contributing to the development and implementation of HR initiatives. This position is ideal for someone who thrives on variety, problem-solving, and building strong relationships across all levels of the company.

Benefits Administration
HR Generalist Support
- Support the full employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and offboarding
- Assist with compliance reporting such as AAP, California Pay Data, and EEO
- Provide guidance to employees and managers on HR policies, procedures, and benefits
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date, and confidential employee records
- Contribute to the design, implementation, and communication of HR programs and initiatives
- Stay current on employment laws and HR best practices to ensure compliance
- Support employee relations by assisting with conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and performance management plans
- Manage and maintain the HRIS to ensure data accuracy, reliable reporting, and continuous improvement through system enhancements
WORKING CONDITIONS/SKILLS/ABILITIES
This position is primarily administrative in nature, working mostly inside of the office completing a wide range of activities. The following abilities are required:
- Completing repetitive movement on tasks such as using a mouse or keyboard
- Ability to remain stationary for long periods of time
- Read, communicate, and document in English
- Identify color
- Determine and exchange accurate information
- Occasionally move about outside of the office
- Occasionally move or hold objects weighing up to 25 lbs
Requirements:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in human resources, business, or related field, or equivalent work experience
- Minimum of 4 years of HR generalist experience, including at least 3 years with a strong focus on benefits administration.
- Strong knowledge of employee benefits programs and employment laws (ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA, EEO, etc.)
- Proven ability to manage confidential and sensitive information with integrity
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, HRIS systems, and the ability to adapt to new technologies.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; ability to collaborate and maintain professionalism in challenging situations.
- Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with managers and employees at all levels.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience working in engineering firms, professional services firms, or other firms with technically focused employees
- Certification in benefits or HR (e.g., CEBS, PHR, SHRM-CP) preferred.
